In my experience, the density and complexity of notated music varies so greatly between composers, pieces—and sometimes even within pieces—that the usual per page rate doesn’t make much sense to me. Instead I charge for my time and I find that it’s more fair to my clients and myself.
Full payment is due upon receipt of all finalized materials. For larger projects that stretch over several weeks or even months I will ask for advance and sometimes interim payments.
